Historical Pics / Sketches of Our Lady of the Assumption Church - Kandivli West
A century old (1920s) pic of the original structure of our Church of Our Lady of the Assumption facing westwards.
The trellis enclosed porch was painted green but was subsequently removed and the porch widened.
The ground plus one tiled building attached to the church on the left was the Sacristy above which was the Parochial House.
Renovations were made off and on till it was demolished in 1995.
The structure on the right was the original tiled St. Joseph High School cum Community Hall.
This was demolished in the early 1980s and the Assumption Hall/ School was built.
This pic was published in the Golden Jubilee Souvenir of the Bombay East Indian Association in 1937.

This water color by the late Teddie Rodrigues ( painter and author of “ Trace- A historical review of East Indian Christians” – 2005, among others ) from an early 1920 photo was one of 12 churches selected to appear in a privately published limited edition Calendar on Heritage Churches of Bombay, 2006. Our church was depicted in the month of August – our parish feast, along with a very short history of our parish.
A color pencil sketch specially commissioned on the occasion of our Sesquicentennial Jubilee on Oct 27 , 2011;
